The Francescan Cloister of Fucecchio’s Convento della Vergine will host the three evenings filled with culture and food organized by the Madonna delle Cinque Association, in partnership with the Contrada Capitana Porta Raimonda. On 8 and 9 September, before the shows, guests can savour a light dinner, while a medieval feast will be served on 11 September.

The shows

The first show will take place on 8 September with “Icchè la mi dice Sora Beatrice  – ovvero viaggio semiserio nel mondo di Dante” by Dispensieri Filippo and Gabriella Manfriani, who will also direct the play. For the 700th anniversary marking the death of Dante Alighieri, Compagnia Teatrale Il Giglio presents this journey into Dante’s world with a performance that explores the poet’s work from a decidedly comic angle.

On 9 September, “Amor, ch’al cor gentil ratto s’apprende” will be staged with readings from the Divine Comedy by Dispensieri Filippo e Gabriella Manfriani, who will also direct the show. This is a traditional tribute to the work of the Supreme Poet with music and words from the masterpiece performed in the cloister, which will be turned into an elegant salon for the occasion, where the essence of the poem and the beauty of art can be savoured under the stars.

The event will finish on Saturday 11 September at 8:30pm with “L’amor che move il sole e l’altre stelle”, a medieval dinner in period costume and with entertainment. The striking atmosphere will remember Dante’s journey to Paradise through music and flavours. An original performance of Canto V of the Inferno will be staged during the evening, directed by Tonella Cenci.
